Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, visited Offenburg and its new innovation campus, Flow1986. On 5,000 m² the all-wood building brings together high-tech laboratories, offices, co-working spaces and a maker space, a lighthouse project for innovation and sustainability in the region. As the campus biotech anchor tenant, Picea Biosolutions gave the Minister a tour of its new 500 m² laboratory, the first biotech lab of its kind in a solid wood building, and shared how the company develops enzymes and bioprocesses for a more sustainable industry.
The state’s innovation strategy names sustainable bioeconomy as one of its future fields, with a focus on small and mid-sized companies and on bringing research into practice more quickly. With our microorganisms, enzymes and proteins we offer biological alternatives to fossil and animal-based processes and use regional side-streams to keep production efficient and low in CO₂. We already supply customers in Europe and the US.
