After several years of iterative strain and bioprocess engineering, we have pushed our Trichoderma reesei platform to a total protein titer of 200 g/L, reaching 150 g/L within 150 h of fermentation. The result makes bulk protein ingredient production via precision fermentation, enzyme solutions for food and feed, and cellulose- and starch-degrading enzyme cocktails for biofuel production commercially viable. Our next step is already underway: reducing background and proteolytic activities to extend the platform toward recombinant proteins.
